HTC’s 2014 was certainly better than its 2013. They released the One (M8) (our review), a beautifully crafted smartphone that few can match in terms of build quality. They teamed up with Google to produce the newest Nexus tablet, theNexus 9 (our review). They entered new product categories with their RE camera and slapped 13MP cameras into the fronts of phones because…selfies. But maybe most importantly, they actually managed to turn a little profit in Q3 of this year and stop the years and years of bleeding. Sure, their revenues are still in decline as sales also continue to slide, but hey, profit is profit. HTC will take whatever they can at this point.

How to watch movies and TV shows for free on Android
Have you ever wondered if it were possible for you to watch movies and TV shows without having to pay for Netflix or any other kind of streaming service? We have, and now we've found a way to do it too. Just sit tight and keep on reading, we'll show you some great apps for watching movies and shows for free on your phone.
A note on Popcorn Time
You may have heard of Popcorn Time, a Netflix-like app with an even bigger selection of more current movies and TV show, but sadly we cannot sanction the use of this app. Popcorn Time is illegal folks: try out some of the other options below instead.
U.S.
Hulu
It was only in recent months that Hulu brought its streaming service to Android, which lets users watch premium TV shows and movies on their smartphones or tablets without paying a subscription fee. Hulu comes packed with current and classic TV shows, Hulu originals, movies and plenty of Kids shows, making it a perfect family tablet companion. Of course, if you want full access to the Hulu library you will need to pay a 7.99 USD monthly fee, but there are plenty of gems to find in the free version too!
Canada / U.S.
Crackle
Crackle is a hugely popular free app available in the US and Canada which is updated monthly with new TV shows and movies. Created by Grouper but later bought by Sony, the app features ads which run at regular intervals throughout the content, but as a compromise you get an excellent selection of media and an app which functions far better than some of the other TV service ports on the list. Watch Seinfeld or Talladega Nights again, for sure.
UK
iPlayer
This catch up service has been going strong for a number of years now and the slick Android app is a great way to watch TV series and movies. It doesn’t have a whole list of archived TV shows and series to sift through, but the catch up service has recently been extended to 30 days, meaning you have a month to catch up on almost anything recently played on any BBC channel. With some excellent programs like Sherlock and Call the Midwife, iPlayer is one of the best free TV services currently available on Android.
ITV Player
The ITV Player app suffered a woefully bad introduction to the Play Store with it being essentially broken on many devices. It’s been turning a bit of a corner with recent updates, but it still has a long way to go. The ITV Player app let’s you stream ITV channels live to your device, as well as catch up on any shows you may have missed from the past week.
4oD
Another app which has struggled with its launch is 4oD. While supplying a fantastic back catalogue of TV shows, and being a firm favorite among many Windows/Mac/console owners, the smartphone experience has been somewhat lacking. Hopefully this will only get better with future updates, as the amount and quality of full series they offer for free is fantastic. All you Peep Show fans owe it to yourself to install it.
Demand 5
Don’t forget that Channel Five’s premier catch-up service Demand 5 is also now available on Android. The updates aren’t as regular as we would like, but nonetheless Demand 5 offers a wide selection of Channel 5 shows and archived programmes to re-watch on your Android smartphone or tablet. The programming quality is arguably lower than the standard offered by Channel 4 and the BBC, although it provides a viable free alternative.
Worldwide
SPB TV
The Android SPB TV app is not necessarily region specific, offering content from around the world via a selection of weird and wonderful stations. It’s not the kind of app you will use to watch the latest Hollywood blockbuster, and you won’t find NBC or Showtime on there, but if you want to take a chance on a wild card then this is it. Be warned, however, a few of the stations definitely appear to be of a more adult nature.
LiveNow!TV
LiveNow!TV offers a broad range of channels from around the world to stream live, as well as a variety of classic/B movies. The movies available are mostly a mix of bizarre horror and Kung Fu movies; LiveNow!TV is a free service supported by ads and of course it doesn't have the same clout as something like Netflix or even Hulu. However, the streaming of live TV worked surprisingly well, and I don't exactly understand how something like this is available when the likes of Popcorn Time and Show Box are banned. Still, for now, it's a great option for streaming a number of well-known channels.
Those are just a few suggestions for finding TV shows and movies on your smartphone. Do you know any others?

Considering Selling Your Prime Minister Scheme Laptop? Think Again!
I’m sure many of our readers have seen the laptops distributed under the Prime Minister Scheme being sold on various websites around the internet. We won’t talk about the ethics of the situation but with the latest developments, we can safely say that anyone who sold their laptop for monetary benefit will soon be regretting their decision.
The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan has taken notice that many students were selling their laptops instead of using them. As a result, the HEC has made it mandatory for all students to show their laptop upon completion of their degree.
Even if the laptop is broken of malfunctioning, showing it will be necessary to get your final degree from your university. If your laptop got stolen, you’ll have to show the FIR lodged against the theft. If you can’t show your laptop or the FIR, you simply won’t be issued a degree and it will be suspended until you do. In short, any profiteering individuals are going to get their just desserts.
Furthermore, if you have sold you laptop, HEC is soon going to find out. They are in the process of tracing anyone who has put up ads for the laptops but the consequences have not yet been made clear. The officials also have serial numbers for all laptops distributed under the scheme and they will be used to track people who have illegally sold them.
According to Dr. Mukhtar, Chairman HEC:
The government of Pakistan, with its limited resources has tried to facilitate the youth through this scheme and if someone tries an act like this, it’s unfortunate and we are going to do everything in our power to stop them.

Top Tech Terms of 2014 You Need to Know in 2015
In ever evolving tech world, sometimes it becomes difficult to stay up to date with latest nags and terms. Though many of us are aware of commonly used social media new words such as selfie, emoji, hashtag etc. but still many of us hardly know about the terms that are becoming mainstream in the intensifying world of technology. It is also lucrative to recognize some of these terms as it can be helpful in a job interview or in a discussion. The Internet of Things: The Internet of Things aka IoT is the concept that relates idea of connecting various home appliances such as doors, refrigerators, air conditioners through a main server and make an embedded connection that allows to share data within these appliances. Extended theory of IoT suggests to make connection between all living and nonliving things so that a normal person don’t have to be log in to computer to transfer data and to get connected. To handle this large amount of data, terms like high-speed internet, industrial internet and big data are emerging so that one can maneuver things accordingly. Big Data: Internet users are increasing with every single moment so is the amount of content on the internet. On the parallel, the amount of data on the PCs and smartphones is also multiplying many fold and are the bytes of data on each server. Considering the amount of data that is beyond imagination of a common man, old fashioned data management replaces with big data analytics that includes the data management related to business transactions, content that is being created on social media, data extracted from scientific computational research, surveillance and so on. LTE: LTE is called long term evolution commonly marketed as 4G LTE, is a standard for wireless communication of high-speed data for mobile phones and data terminals, since 3G and 4G are going ubiquitous all over the world, we need to understand the related terms. G is for generation. The goal of LTE was to increase the capacity and speed of wireless data networks. Augmented Reality: It is the virtually designed computational world in which a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment’s elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. You can call it a cyber-physical system which enhances the real world scene through superimposed graphics. One example of it that retailers are currently experimenting with augmented reality to get more customers into the stores by allowing shoppers to see the clothes on them without having to actually try them on. Selfie: And last but not the least the word selfie which had been added in the Oxford dictionary last year. 2014 has been remained a selfie year and the craze of selfies didn’t only overshadow the people but also the mainstream celebrities. Many smartphone companies in the start of 2014, referred the year 2014 to be a selfie year and focused on releasing the handsets with accordingly powerful front cameras which turned out to be a productive marketing slogan. Facebook and Instagram remained on top in selfie sharing.

VLC Player For iOS Returning To App Store Very Soon, Confirms Developer
VLC for iOS is returning to the App Store very soon according to the lead developer for the iPhone, iPad and OS X version of the video player. More details to follow, after the jump.
VLC is by far one of the most versatile video players out there on every major platform, including OS X and iOS. Having been on the iOS App Store for some time now and running videos on a plethora of devices, the app was pulled from the store this September, following the release of iOS 8.
That said, Felix Paul Kuehne, the lead developer of VLC on iOS and OS X, in response to a consumer’s complaint about the continual absence of the app has tweeted that the app should be reaching us "hopefully quite soon". In another response to a question on a VLC forum post, Kuehne explained that "It will be again, but probably early next year due to the iTunes Connect holiday shutdown." Where ‘it’ would be the VLC player for iOS.
When the popular video player went missing back in September, VLC did not offer any explanation for the sudden disappearance, making a very vague statement that the company was working with Apple on a solution towards bringing the app back onto the App Store. It still remains unclear if there were compatibility constraints with iOS 8.0 or was it some legal issue.
VLC however did announce the launch of a semi-public TestFlight beta trial of the updated version of the VLC player for iOS in early December, and just recently the developers have released the TestFlight beta 2 version of the the app with further improvements to the original update.
VLC player for iOS has never been that feature rich video player with an array of customizations, and even the aesthetics and the interface of the app leave a lot to be desired. What it does manage effectively however, is the playback of almost every other video format you throw at it.
If formats are not your concern, there are a bunch of other free media players out there which will easily substitute VLC on your iPhone or iPad.
