A year ago, a rumor spread on Facebook that legend cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq has died. This news shocked everyone, especially Inzamam himself as he was perfectly healthy resting in his home.
Fake news stories often spread around Facebook. From John Cena’s death to Sarah Palin joining Al-Jazeera Network, Facebook is the home of false news. In fact, many people often sarcastically mock the social media giant with this expression:
It’s on Facebook, it must be true
But that’s all about to change now. Facebook will let you report false news.
Facebook announced this feature a few hours ago in on their official blog.
Facebook has long been a victim of hoaxes, i.e. fake news, so this feature was being demanded for a long time. Now it is likely that rumors will be killed before they do the damage.
This is indeed a good step by Facebook as such rumors hurt everyone.
