Samsung will supply chips for Apple iPhone 7

Monday, 26 January 2015

SamsungA South Korean newspaper has claimed that Samsung will supply the application processor A9 for Apple’s next iPhone and also be responsible for about 75% of the chip production for the smartphone.Suffice to say, the previous iPhone’s 6 application processor was manufactured by the Taiwan Semiconductor company TSMC which is the world’s largest chip foundry operator.
According to Maeil Business Newspaper, Samsung will also supply the application processor for its own flagship smartphone Galaxy S6.The newspaper did not further mention the details about the contract and its worth. There are no details about what other hardware Samsung intends to sell to its utter rival.Samsung will make the chips from its factory in Austin, Texas, according to the report. The company mostly uses Qualcomm Snapdragon for its top smartphones, but currently facing some overheating issues that is why Apple is not agreed upon having them. The interesting thing here is that Samsung is working currently on Galaxy S6 model which will most likely be launched in March this year, and likely to feature Samsung’s own Exynos application processor.South Korean tech giant is planning to equip its next Exynos chipset with a tri-band LTE Cat. 10 modem, which theoretically can approach the internet speed up to 450 Mbps, which is way too faster than the current maximum LTE Cat.6 standard that can show maximum of 300Mbps speed.Samsung’s decision to part ways with Qulacomm reflects company’s new commitment in order to overhaul its smartphone division globally. Samsung sales went substantially down last year and company wants to regain the lost momentum.
