This Guy Tried Smuggling 94 iPhones Into China All Strapped To His Body [Photos]

Tuesday, 13 January 2015

You may have seen some strange stuff people tend to smuggle across countries through customs, often wearing the contrabands on their bodies. A man in China has definitely caught our attention with his creativity and thought process, where he shows us how you can smuggle 94 iPhones across borders all while wearing them on your body. Head on after the break, to read about this craziness.
According to a Chinese social media website, photos of a man who tried smuggling 94 iPhones into China via Hong Kong have surfaced and they show the individual wearing all devices on his body, clad in plastic wrap and made into one extravagant suit. Apparently, the man was coming in from Hong Kong and was attempting to cross through into China via the Futian Port, and it wasn’t too long before he was caught by the Chinese custom officials, because apparently, he was walking funny.

The officials said that the man had a weird walking posture along with stiff strides, and was resultantly forced to pass through a metal detector which gave the man’s game away. However, kudos to the man for he showed all aspiring iPhone smugglers how not to bring iPhones into China.
But why are people smuggling iPhones into China? China has recently seen an overwhelming desire to hop onto the iPhone bandwagon, with the iPhone 6 / 6 Plus witnessing a huge increase in demand over the iPhone 5 and 5s. Currently an unlocked iPhone 6 base model at 16GB costs around $872 in China compared to $649 in the U.S.

Hong Kong on the other hand has the two iPhone models available for much cheaper on its side of the border with easy availability on the black market as well, and the busted smuggler was attempting to exploit this very difference.
Interestingly, iPhone 6 units were fetching up to $3000 in China when the device was not officially available in the market.
