Wednesday, 11 February 2015

You don’t need to spend a fortune to get the best Android offers: some of our favorite phones come with impressively low price tags. These are the best cheap Android phones for buyers on a budget.

HTC Desire 816

For about 178 USD off-contract you can pick up the HTC Desire 816, and it's a great deal. The 13 MP rear camera is the standout feature of this quality handset, offering HD video recording and fantastic snaps with autofocus and LED flash.
The Desire 816's high-definition LCD screen comes in at 5.5 inches, and other highlights include a 5 MP front facing camera and 2,600 mAh battery for long lasting entertainment.

Sharp Aquos Crystal

The Sharp Aquos Crystal might look like a high-end device, but you might be surprised to learn that this Android gem only costs around 129 USD off-contract. For that price, not only do you get a bezel-less smartphone unlike anything else on the platform, but also an 8 MP rear-camera, HD screen, good battery life and strong performance. It even has expandable storage!
The Aquos Crystal has completely taken us by surprise – this is genuinely one of the best value handsets on Android, even without the awesome design. Check out our Sharp Aquos Crystal review to learn more.

Moto G 2014

The latest version of Motorola’s budget bargain is one of the best low-cost smartphones you can buy. It has a 5-inch HD screen, a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, 8 MP and 1.2 MP cameras and superb build quality, and you can get one for as little as 179.99 USD in the US from the official site (149.99 GBP in the UK).

ZTE Blade III

It’s amazing how far phones have come in a very short space of time: the ZTE Blade III is just 76.99 GBP in the UK. It’s available with a dizzying range of names around the world, but while the names change the guts don’t: you get a 4-inch screen, 4 GB of storage, a 1600 mAh battery and Android 4.0. It’s not the fastest or most amazing phone in the world but if you want something really cheap, it’s hard to argue with the Blade.

Moto E

The Moto G isn’t the only Motorola in our list: the excellent Moto E is cheaper still, coming in at 99.99 USD in the US and 60 GBP in the UK. For your money you’re getting a dual-core Snapdragon 200, 4 GB of internal memory and 1 GB of RAM, a 4.3-inch display, a 5 MP camera and a battery that’s good for up to 24 hours. Those prices are seriously good, especially since Moto E will be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop too.

Moto G

The 2014 version may be even better, but the original Moto G was a budget bargain and it’s even cheaper now: you can pick an unlocked 3G one up for just 163 USD in the US and 120 GBP in the UK. There’s also a 4G version, although that adds $40 to the price.

Asus Zenfone 5

The Zenfone 5 isn’t the prettiest Android phone around, but you can pick it up for as little as 148 USD in the US and 110 GBP in the UK. Asus might not have made a beautiful phone, but it’s crammed plenty of power into that unassuming case: there’s a 1.6 GHz multi-core Intel Atom processor, a dual SIM slot, a 5-inch screen, an FM radio and an 8 MP camera.

EE Kestrel

Exclusive to the EE network in the UK, the Kestrel is a rebranded Huawei Ascent G6 priced to sell at 99.99 GBP or 169.99 USD in the US. That’s an extremely low price for a 4G smartphone, although as you might expect getting something so cheap means some corners have been cut: the build quality isn’t brilliant and the UI is an acquired taste. Then again, you can’t really complain when you’re getting four cores and 4G for less than £100.

Sony Xperia M2

The second generation of Sony’s mid-range handset, the Xperia M2, is just seven months old but it’s already being discounted heavily: it’s currently 234.95 USD in the US and 144.99 GBP in the UK. There’s a 4.8-inch display, 8 GB of storage, a quad-core Snapdragon running at 1.2 GHz and 4G LTE for speedy online access.

HTC Desire 610

HTC has made some really nice smartphones in recent years, but high-end tech doesn’t command high prices for very long and the 4G Desire 610 is currently 139.99 USD on Amazon US. It's a little harder to find in the UK, but is available on Amazon at 232.77 GBP. It’s a 4G device with an 8 MP camera, a 4.5-inch QHD display, dual speakers and up to 15 hours of battery life.

Nokia X

If you fancy something a bit different, the Nokia X fits the bill: Nokia’s short-lived Android adventure produced a very capable smartphone, although the customization means it’ll seem a bit odd to experienced Android users. The specs are fairly modest - there’s a 4-inch LCD, a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor and a disappointing 3 MP main camera - but it’s a nice enough phone at a very low price: it’s just 99 USD unlocked on Amazon US and 77 GBP in the UK.
