Apple TV Gets Cricket Australia Channel Just In Time For World Cup 2015

Wednesday, 14 January 2015

If you have even the vaguest grasp on Australian culture, you’ll know that the sport of cricket is popular across the nation. In fact, it’s quite a massive deal to many Aussie sports fans, and so today’s news that Apple TV now includes its very own Cricket Australia channel will surely appease cricket lovers down under.
Apple TV once cut a very lonely figure among the Mac maker’s product line-up, with very little promotion or attention, but ever since the Google Chromecast first appeared – a much cheaper, similar product that flew off shelves – Apple has afforded the little black box a great deal more respect. New channels and services are being added on an almost weekly basis these days, although Cricket Australia, as you might imagine, is available only to those residing in Oz.

It includes highlights, reports and other content associated with the sport, and if you live in Australia and happen to be a cricket fanatic, then this new app should include everything you need. Not only is it packed to the rafters with features, including interviews with cricketing legends and behind the scenes glimpses of all things cricket, but it’s apparently free to use, so you won’t have to part with any of your hard-earned cash in order to follow your beloved sport through your Apple TV set-top.
We’re right on the cusp of the new cricket season, with the World Cup 2015 starting in Australia next month, so there’s also the chance that this rather timely free roll-out will require a subscription once the games really begin. Nevertheless, this is one update not to be missed by any respectable Aussie cricket fan, and if you are a cricket enthusiast, fire up your Apple TV and check it out.

Back in June of last year, Willow TV was introduced to beam cricket content to audiences in America, offering a deluge of features, highlights and such for the monthly subscription fee of $15 per month. Given that Cricket Australia does not, and likely will not reach the States, those of you looking to follow the latest updates will probably want to invest in that Willow TV package for the time being, and hopefully, we’ll be treated to more options as Apple TV’s roster continues to expand and improve.
